The "free consultation" appointment is simply the discovery appointment before any contract between parties is issued. This is a quick 30-60 minutes appointment that can be done in person, virtually, or over the phone. You can come into the consultation without being certain having a doula is the right path for you, or absolutely certain or your need for a doula. No research or firm decisions required! This is the time for you to bring all your questions to the table about what it could look like to have a doula as part of your team and how they may impact your pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.

If you're stuck on what questions are worth asking, first off, there's no silly questions. When it comes to birth, it's all relevant if it's about you feeling safe, confident, and empowered. But, if you're stuck, this post can help!

This consultation is also a great time to check in on personalities. As you're talking, consider how the doula is making you feel. Are you being heard and validated? Is your spouse being welcomed to the table and included? The reality is that sometimes personalities don't work together well. That's OK! That's why this appointment is such an important first step. You'll want to be sure you and your spouse feel comfortable and confident in what your doula is bringing to a very vulnerable and special time in your life.

You will recieve a follow up to check in, but there's no obligation! In fact, you can interview multiple doulas to find the right fit for you. As a doula, I want you to feel comfortable, confident, and empowered by all members of your birth team, even if it means I'm not the one serving you!
